One of the most common concerns we come across is the issue of loneliness and isolation among the older people living in Halton. We encourage participation wherever possible in activities organised with this in mind.

We work closely with Linda Robinson, Social Inclusion Officer with Age UK Mid Mersey, who organises a number of participation groups within Halton.

Every Monday morning there is a Men’s Pool Club in Runcorn. Being good at pool is not a prerequisite skill.  This is always a fun meeting full of laughter and good camaraderie.

Every other Monday afternoon there is a Meet and Eat social meeting in Widnes.

Tuesday is Memory Lane day with meetings in the morning in Runcorn and the afternoon in Widnes. Each meeting is a stroll down memory lane by storytelling, quizzes, singing and guest speakers.

Wednesday groups alternate between Afternoon tea accompanied by chat and guest speakers and a Vintage Coffee Morning with fun quiz, guest speakers and seasonal activities. Both these groups are held in Runcorn.

On the last Thursday of each month “Alive and Kicking” is a social gathering across a variety of venues, usually licensed premises with lunch optional, where laughter plays a prominent part.

There is an article about these groups in our Spring 2016 Newsletter which will give further insight to the flavour of these group meetings.

If you or anyone you know would enjoy attending one of Linda’s groups then please contact Linda on 01928 575400 to learn more and arrange your potential attendance. At some of the venues, numbers are a little limited but we hope that you will not be disappointed.

Some of the activities in this article may have changed – please phone Linda for up-to-date info.
