Councillors are to discuss ways of how to improve life for older people living in rented accommodation in Halton.

It has been identified that elderly tenants can face issues such as anti-social behaviour, not being consulted on changes to their surroundings, the fear of crime, isolation and loneliness and a reluctance to complain out of fear of retribution.

A report has been published  that cites the National Pensioners’ Convention Dignity Code which raises the profile of older people and makes recommendations to not treat older people as objects and keeping them informed in a way that they understand.  The report asks that all agencies involved work together to protect the health and wellbeing of our older population.

Halton OPEN has been directly involved in the Council’s recent Domiciliary Care Consultation and will continue to support the Council in other consultations on residential care in the future.
